Estella

Estella's character consists of a cold girl that is used as a weapon of Miss Havisham's to break men's hearts. We could say 'She is as cold as Miss Havisham looks..'
She is introduced into the story when Pip goes to Satis House for a play date with Estella. The first impressions we get from her would be that she is a natural beauty but with a cold heart. Pip is infatuated with her and falls in love her instantly despite how cruel she is towards him.
In the 2012 film version of the book, I find Estella's character exactly as you would expect it. She is cold through out most of the film, showing some elements though of her love towards Pip. Through out watching this film I was quite focused on her hairstyles and how extravagantly unique they were. I felt that these styles did reflect the young woman that Miss Havisham wanted to be: tidy and tightly pulled back which to me shows the elements of perfection and cold. The extravagant updos show how she wants to stand out in the crowd and get the attention from men. I noticed that her hairstyles were uptight when she was cold towards Pip, and loose when she was intimitate with him such as the scene when she is teaching him to dance and the last scene of the film. The makeup is very natural as it needs to play along with the Victorian style. Although I noticed she was wearing eyeliner so maybe not so true. Either way she still looked quite natural with smooth skin and blushed cheeks. This makeup is perfect for her character and the era as it shows she is a natural beauty and needs no makeup as makeup wasn't really used anyway in the 1800s.
In the 2011 BBC series version, I think that the way Estella has been styled disguises her from the person she is. She looks so innocent and the dresses she wears reminds me of dressing up a dolly as well as the delicate hairstyles she has. These elements help hide the cold person she is underneath. Her makeup is quite pale but obviously not as pale as Miss Havisham's. She has a natural look about her obviously portraying the natural beauty she typically is.
